What is NEHS and what can it bring to a school?
The National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) is a schoolbased program recognizing outstanding elementary students in grades four through six and engaging them in the meaningful development of leadership skills and a personal understanding of the value of service. More than just an honor roll, NEHS gives each member school a means of identifying high-achieving students who have an understanding of what it means to be a responsible student and citizen in our world today. An NEHS chapter connects your school to a national network of those committed to awakening all young people to the many opportunities available to those who commit to excellence. An NEHS chapter can motivate your students to apply high standards of excellence in all that they do in life. Through chapter activities that involve the entire student body, this message can be shared with all students, making the positive impact of hosting an NEHS chapter important to the whole school.
What does NEHS do when established in a school?
Establishing a chapter of NEHS at your elementary school provides two unique opportunities. First, Recognition: You bring national recognition to your school and participation in an important national recognition program to your students. Second, Engagement: Through the resources of the national office and the activities of the local chapter, you provide new opportunities for students to be more actively engaged in their education and in the world around them. NEHS can involve the whole school in promoting Scholarship, Responsibility, Leadership, and Service as important values for all young people.
